Abstract

Throughout life a person learns to determine by various external signs this or that emotional state of people around him/her and thus to express his/her own emotions. In the process of Internet communication, all its participants experience emotions, which are verbally or non-verbally expressed through emotionally coloured means. Identification of such means of emotion transmission in the Internet environment plays an important role in the development of emotive linguistics as a separate science, the object of which is verbal means of expressing a person's emotional state. The purpose of the research is to identify and describe lexical and graphic means of expressing emotions in comments in English from the social network Instagram. As a result of the research, it was found that in the comments from the social network Instagram, connotatives (23 units in 100 contexts) quantitatively prevail among the lexical means of conveying emotions, which is associated with the desire of users to first of all subjectively evaluate what they have seen in a certain publication. Among the graphic means of representing emotions, the most frequent is the exclamation mark (46 units in 100 contexts), which is justified by the desire of comment authors to bring Internet communication as close as possible to live interaction with the help of this sign.
