Abstract

The object of our attention in the article was the concept “house / home”, the subject of study was the specificity of its distribution in Belarusian and Polish discourse. The purpose of the study was to characterize the ideological and ethnic implementation of the corresponding conceptual semantics in the famous poems of the Belarusian Y. Kolas’s “New Land” and the Pole A. Mickiewicz’s “Pan Tadeusz”. Both works are in a certain sense exemplary as the result of the author’s cognitive reflection and as a reflection of the worldview of ethnically identical Belarusian and Polish socio-cultural communities. The methodological basis of the study was a complex discursive and conceptual analysis of the text with elements of comparison and modeling. As a result of the study, the pragmatically driven implementation of the idioethnically significant concept “house / home” on representative material was identified and scientifically described. The semantic structure of the concept, the features of its situational and metaphorical embodiment are considered. The consideration of the referential concept sphere, including the identification and linguistic qualification of a number of other concepts related to the conceptual semantics of the “house / home”, was useful for the analysis. The research matrix tested in the article can be used for larger-scale studies of the conceptual semantics of both Belarusian and Polish discourse.
