Abstract

The article examines the main approaches to the consideration of the biomorphic code in studies of literary studies, linguistic and cultural studies, and folkloristics. It is noted that the biomorphic code belongs to the number of basic cultural codes, separately noted in the classifications of V. Krasnykh, G. Bagautdinava, and A. Belaya. As subcodes of the biomorphic code, it is appropriate to single out subcodes that are related to ideas about the animal and plant world, however, in the classifications of a number of researchers, these codes are singled out separately. The plant (vegetative, phytonomic, phytomorphic, botanical) code is present in the classifications of N. Stepanova, S. Sanko, V. Tselia, V. Lyashchinskaya, M. Kaushova, V. Maslava, M. Pimenova, and others. The cultural code, which is related to the depiction of the animal world, has the following names in various classifications of cultural codes: animal (S. Sanko), faunistic (G. Mezenka), zoological (T. Levontieva), zoomorphic (V. Maslava, M. Pimenova, V. Tselia, N. Stepanova, V. Lyashchinskaya). In turn, the researchers also propose to consider animal and plant codes in more detail. For example, a number of researchers divide the plant code into two subcodes: phytonymic (names of flowers, herbs) and dendronymic (dendrological). It is claimed that the biomorphic code plays an important meaning-making role in the ideological and artistic system of a number of works of beautiful literature of different periods. The use of cultural codes allows the writer to achieve a certain effect with minimal explication, since cultural codes are carriers of cultural meanings and are associated with various spheres.
