Abstract

The corpus of winged words used in the Belarusian language has not yet been sufficiently studied and lexicographically described in the existing phraseological and paremiological dictionaries. The article presents the results of the analysis of literary, artistic and journalistic texts, which use catchwords that are not reflected in modern Belarusian phraseology. The purpose of the research is to establish and lexicographically describe the winged words from foreign language sources that are not recorded in the phraseological dictionaries of the modern Belarusian literary language. More than 9000 literary, artistic and journalistic texts of various genres served as the actual research material, from which about 250 catchwords from various foreign literary and folklore sources were selected. As a result of the research, it was determined that most of the analyzed catchwords (about 75%) are not described in the Belarusian phraseology, and they are also absent in the explanatory dictionaries of the modern Belarusian literary language. The textual sources of idioms borrowed from other languages are identified and differentiated, the invariant form of idioms is established, their content plan and features of use in the Belarusian language are described. The principles of lexicographic description of winged words originating from foreign literary and folklore sources have been developed. The research was conducted within the framework of the scientific project “Belarusian phraseology, paremiology, linguistic aphorisms in the context of European languages and cultures (synchronic and diachronic aspects)” (No. 20211335) of the “Belarusian language and literature” subprogram of the State Program of Scientific Research for 2021–2025.
