Abstract

The article deals with the problem of forming the conceptual apparatus of a young scientific discipline – social ecology. The role of philosophical methodology in the conceptual and terminological enrichment of modern natural science is studied using the concept of “environmental quality” as an example. Social ecology expands its own conceptual structures by attracting philosophical categories (“content”, “system”, “quality”, “quantity”, etc.). The concept of “environmental quality” is of a normative nature, implicitly involves an assessment procedure in accordance with quantitative indicators and is specified in such indicators as “the level of saturation with harmful impurities”, “percentage of a pollutant”.
