Abstract

The purpose of the article is to determine the features of the organization of the press of the BSSR (periodicals, publishing) in the context of the implementation of the Belarusization policy. It is noted that in the course of the reorganization of the management structure of the periodical press institutions were created that streamlined the operation of the printing system and dealt with the issues of their Belarusization. Belarusization of the press meant the placement of Belarusian-language materials in newspapers and magazines or their complete translation into Belarusian, increasing the volume of book production in the Belarusian language. The article focuses on the study of the organization of the work of district newspapers as the most widespread form of periodicals in the 1920s. Factual data on book production by language and typology of publication in 1924–1929 are presented, the number of printed books in the Belarusian language as a percentage of other publications is indicated. The author comes to the conclusion that during the period of Belarusization, the press enriched the media space with national information – historical, ethnographic, local history, literary and scientific and became a significant factor in the formation of public opinion and the consolidation of the Belarusian nation. The practical significance of the study is due to the fact that the appeal to the experience gained by the Belarusian press in the course of implementing the Belarusization policy will help in realizing the urgent tasks of reviving national and cultural values, maintaining a respectful attitude to the historical past.
