Abstract

The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the “Dictionary of forest terms” – a publication in which the Forestry terminology of the Belarusian language was first lexicographically reflected. The paper analyzes the features of the structure of this dictionary; identifies the thematic groups of term formations recorded in it; identifies the principles of the formation of the Belarusian special vocabulary of forestry, which guided the compilers of this publication; considerable attention is directed to the structural and grammatical analysis of term formations.

It is revealed that the dictionary is biscapal according to the features of the megastructure. In total, it translates 1657 terms representing a variety of thematic groups: names of forest plants, fruits; names of diseases of forest plants and forest pests; names of forest animals, birds, insects, fungi; names of tools, devices; names of forestry operations and processes; names of forestry institutions; names of professions and persons associated with the forestry industry; names of concepts related to the forest economy, etc.

The compilers of the “Dictionary of forest terms” based their work on several principles: the use of live folk speech, the use of borrowed vocabulary, and word-making.

In accordance with the number of structural and semantic parts that stand out in the terminator, the entire set of Belarusian terms recorded in the analyzed dictionary is divided into 2 groups: monolexemic (about 47% of them) and polylexemic (about 53% of them). One-word terms are represented by independent lexemes: substantives (93%), adjectives (4%), verbatives (3%). Polylexemic terms include two-word terms (about 49% of them), three-word terms (about 4% of them), and rare four-and five-word terms.
