Abstract

The article considers the issues of developing a national policy in Belarus – Belarusianization, which became a defining feature of the entire social development of the BSSR in the 1920s. There were certain preconditions for the implementation of this policy – the ideas and practices of the Belarusian national movement, the formation of the Belarusian state and the expansion of its territory, the liberalization of economic life, the retreat from the desire to force the world revolution. The nature and content of national policy was largely determined by the changes that began in the country as a whole. The program of Belarusianization took into account the multinational composition of the population, its peculiar settlement in the country, the low level of economic development of the country, the disproportionately low share of Belarusians in party, Soviet, economic authorities and government. During the development of the policy of Belarusianization, special attention was paid to the development of the Belarusian language, national education and science, the cultural revival of the republic, and the personnel issue. The interests of those national minorities living in Belarus were not ignored.

The policy of Belarusianization was raised to the level of the state with a clear enshrinement in the relevant laws, had an exceptional impact on the population, gave great hope for the implementation of the ideas of national and cultural construction, which in the second half of the 1920s. found their embodiment in practice.
