Abstract
The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the genre and format diversity of publications in Belarusian popular science magazine “Rodnaya Pryroda”. In the conditions of modern world, where the media are obliged not only to provide high-quality information, but also to fight for the audience’s attention, the relevance of popular science journalism is increasing, especially in the context of increasing environmental literacy of the population. The study is aimed to identify popular genres and forms of presentation of materials in the magazine, as well as to analyze trends in this field. The research material includes publications for the period from 2021 to 2024, as well as content from magazine’s website. The methods used include analysis of the materials’ structure and content, monitoring of current topics and content analysis. The results show the magazine presents 19 different genres in its publications, among which feature and analytical genres dominate. The author focuses on the distribution of the materials by type, which reveals the prevalence of such genres as sketch, essay and analytical interview. These genres make up a significant share of the magazine’s publications and play a key role in effectively communicating environmental issues and scientific advances in environmental protection. Particular attention is paid to genre hybridization and changes in traditional forms of information presentation. The magazine actively uses text as well as visual elements, such as infographics andphotographs, to contribute to a better perception of complex environmental concepts by the masses. Interactive formats, limited to being a printed media, including quizzes and educational games, also play an important role in engaging readers, especially young people. The study emphasizes the importance of combining different mediums to deliver information, noting that namely such a format makes publications more descriptive and accessible to a wider audience.
