Abstract
The article examines the influence of the process of forming a culture of personal data protection on the representation of a person’s image in media photography. The theoretical basis for the study was domestic and foreign scientific publications devoted to the study of the influence of legislation on personal data on the functioning of modern journalism, as well as works in the field of psychology showing the importance of a person’s visual image. The empirical material was photo content of Belarusian periodicals and their Internet resources for 2023 – June 2024. Typical examples from modern Belarusian media photography, as well as examples from the history of world photojournalism, were considered. The importance of a reportage photographic portrait is shown. In the course of the study, techniques for creating reportage photographic portraits characteristic of photojournalism of the twentieth century were established, and limitations were identified for the creation and publication of a reportage photographic portrait in the modern media space. Conclusions are made about the development of new approaches in media photography to the representation of a person's image without the possibility of identifying his or her personality; abstracted image of a human figure; portraiture of a person without a face; photographing a person in extreme close-up, using metaphorical images. The main methods of depersonalizing a person in the practice of modern media photography are defined: the use of certain modes of photography, types of lighting, compositional techniques, post-processing techniques for photographic images, etc. It is established that the representation of a person without the possibility of his or her identification in modern media photography is characteristic mainly when showing a typical person in a typical situation, as well as for illustrating publications on problems. An increase in the number of such photographs is predicted in the near future.
