Abstract

The forests of the Republic of Belarus, in which main felling is prohibited and renovation felling is allowed in the order of intermediate use of the forest, are located in two (sometimes three) categories. This circumstance makes it difficult to establish a unified forest management regime in them. In these research, it was proposed for the first time to combine forests with renovation felling of various categories into a separate organizational and economic unit with the name “forests of a special environmental cluster” and the abbreviation FOSEC. In the process of research, the dynamics of the total area of the forest fund, the area of forested land and the area of pine formation of forests of the special environmental protection cluster of Belarus for the period 1961–2023 were analyzed. The distribution of pine forests subject to renovation felling within forest zoning of Belarus has been established. As a result of the research, it was established that the total area of the FOSEC forest fund in the current millennium has stabilized at the level of 4.4–5.0% of the forest fund area of the republic, which is 2.8 times higher, then in the 70–90s of the XX century. There is an unstable dynamic in the share offorested lands (from 64.8 to 93.1%) and pine formation (from 55.5 to 73.5%) in forests with renovation felling, which is significantly lower than similar indicators of the forest fund of the republic. The main share of pine forests subject to renovation felling is located in the subzone of oak-dark coniferous forests (63.3%), among the geobotanical districts – in the Western Dvina (24.1%).
