Abstract

The article, on the materials of archival documents of the National Historical Archive of Belarus (NIAB), examines the history of the formation of pre-conscription training of students in the Vilensky educational district (VED). The author examined the documents stored in the archival funds of the NIAB: circulars of the Ministry of Education, circulars and orders of the trustee of the Vilensky school district, reports, memos of managers and employees of subordinate educational institutions, minutes of meetings of pedagogical councils of schools, orders of leaders of military structures. The author noted that teaching in the primary public schools of military gymnastics of the VED required qualified personnel, therefore, the training of folk mentors for teaching military gymnastics was started at the Vilenski Educational. In matters of military training of students of VED, interactions were built between military structures and the leadership of educational institutions. he introduction of pre-conscription training and civil-patriotic education of students, the organization of mixed squads consisting of “extracurricular” youth and students of educational institutions in the Vilnius educational district ensured a high level of patriotism among young people, which manifested itself during the First World War. The author, based on the analysis of archival documents, concluded that in the educational institutions of the VED, the formulation of the educational process was inextricably linked with the military training of young people and corresponded to the needs and interests of the state.
