Abstract

The study was conducted within the framework of the “Lansink’s ladder” concept, which is a generally accepted method for ranking waste disposal methods. Considering that this concept mainly focuses on the gradation, it was proposed herein to expand its functionality by applying the evaluation approach and proposing the objective function for selecting waste management treatment, which has been developed taking into account the weighting coefficients of each treatment method – incineration, disposal waste, its prevention and etc. The “digitized Lansink’s Ladder” approach allows to calculate weighting coefficients to make decisions regarding the choice of the waste management treatment method, focusing not on a single country, but on the generalized world practice of MSW management; the data source for its development is the Global waste index by Sensoneo. Also, the proposed approach can be used in the development of models that allow us to “test” ways to increase a country’s position in any international rankings, in case of the absence of a clear description of the methods and their compilation as well as incompleteness of the benchmark data. Based on optimization, one can select the most significant parameters to increase the rating and evaluate their weighting coefficients.
