Abstract

The purpose of the study is to develop pressing modes, the use of which would make it possible to obtain sanitary filler from wood processing waste of non-uniform moisture content. The technology for producing wood filler is similar to the technology for producing fuel pellets. However, the issue of production of this product has been little studied due to its narrow focus. During the experiment, waste from the mechanical processing of lumber with different moisture contents: from 10 to 22% was used as feedstock, which significantly complicated the production of highquality sanitary filler. The production of filler was reduced to the use of technology for the production of fuel pellets from wood. The experiment was carried out at “SWOODS Export LLC”. Mandatory certification of sanitary litter for animals is not provided for by the legislation of the Republic of Belarus. However, given the fact that the product must be competitive in the market, it was necessary to adhere to certain quality indicators by which it would be possible to assess whether the operating modes of the process equipment were correctly selected. To confirm the high quality of the resulting filler, its characteristics were compared with the threshold values according to ISO 17225-2:2021, which is applicable to fuel pellets. The results of the experiment showed that, subject to certain pressing conditions, it is possible to obtain sanitary filler from wood waste that has non-uniform moisture content. An important advantage in the production of filler in comparison with fuel pellets is the fact that such a product is not subject to mandatory certification. This greatly simplifies the production process due to the fact that it is possible to use wood waste, which is not subject to strict requirements for moisture and quality.
