Abstract

The article examines the issue of the formation and development of military training at the Belarusian State University, the reasons of both internal and external nature that contributed to the formation of the military department, and subsequently, on it’s basis, the military faculty. Based on an analysis of literature and legal acts, a historical overview of the process of formation and development of military training in educational institutions of Belarus is presented. Emphasis is placed on the history of the creation of the military department at BSU: the procedure for students undergoing pre-conscription military training and serving after completing active military service is considered, characteristics are given to the teaching staff of the military department, the organization of the educational process, the material and technical base of training, etc., as well as the reorganization at the present stage of the military department into a military faculty.
