Abstract

The article considers the role of wages in the national economy and concludes that the level of wages and the sustainability of its dynamics can be used to judge the state and competitiveness of the national economy. In this regard, an attempt was made to form a system of statistical indicators of wage sustainability in the national economy of Belarus. This system includes relative (index of real wages; ratio of average wages to the minimum subsistence budget of the able-bodied population (MSBP)), structural indicators (the share of workers receiving wages below MSBP; the share of workers with low wages), as well as indicators of differentiation (general, inter-regional, interindustry, gender). The system of indicators was tested on the data of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus. The dynamics of indicators of technological development, businessdemographic statistics, financial results of organizations and the structure of household incomes were considered as the economic “background” for their analysis. The results of the analysis revealed stagnation of wages and growth of wage inequality against the background of slowdown in technological development and decline in entrepreneurial activity. It is concluded that ensuring the growth of wages and ordering the proportions in labor remuneration implies the improvement of management technologies and production technologies, which requires improving the quality of the institutional environment.
