Abstract

Proverb funds of genetically and geographically distant languages are currently not sufficiently studied in terms of comparability and typology. The article presents the results of a Belarusian and Vepsian proverbs comparison using a synchronic approach and structural-semantic modeling of interlanguage proverb parallels. The aim of the study is to establish and differentiate the typological unity of interlanguage proverbial analogues of the Belarusian and Vepsian languages. 755 proverbs of the Vepasian language and over 12,000 proverbs of the Belarusian language served as the research material. Out Vepsian proverbs selected for analysis, 158 units have parallels in the Belarusian language. A total of 72 items similar to Belarusian proverbs are recorded in the proverb fund of the Vepsian language. The scientific novelty of the study is, first of all, in the very fact of comparing Vepsian and Belarusian proverbs, as well as in the application of the method of synchronic approach with structural-semantic modeling to differentiate the types of their interlanguage analogues. Vepsian proverbs, which have analogues in the Belarusian language, are differentiated by the nature of interlanguage commonality into several typologically significant groups: universal, international, proverbs common to the Russian language, common only to the Belarusian and Vepsian languages. The results and methodology of obtaining them can be used for typological research of proverb funds of other genetically and geographically distant languages. The research was carried out of the task of the Belarusian Republican Fund for Fundamental Research (Project no. 20231303).
