Abstract

The article deals with the life path of a native of the Mogilev province Sergey Filippovich Kovalik (1846–1926), who was prominent revolutionary, organizer of narodnik circles in tsarist Russia, going of intelligentsia to the people. It is noted that being in a long imprisonment and exile in Еastern Siberia, he was engaged in the study of the language and life of the population of Yakutia, recorded the lowest temperature in the north hemisphere. It is shown that having returned to Belarus in 1898 Kovalik lived in the Blon estate of Bonch-Оsmolovskikh in Pukhovichi volost, then in Minsk, where he worked in the excise department. During the First World War he served in the Zemstvo Union and was elected in 1917 chairman of the provincial land committee. After the establishment of Soviet power he headed the pension department in the People’s Commissariat for Social Security of the BSSR. Special attention is paid to the work of сandidate of sciences S. F. Kovalik in December 1920 – Junе 1922 as a lecturer-teacher of higher mathematics in the Belarusian State Polytechnical Institute. The author emphasizes the value of the book and articles of S. F. Kovalik on the history of the revolutionary movement in Russia and the necessity to preserve the memory of a public figure and scientist in his homeland – in Belarus
