Abstract

The article examines the activities of Jewish and Polish interest-free credit bureaus in the interwar period on the territory of Western Belarus. The study of this problem makes it possible to more fully and deeply explore the development of the credit and banking system of the West Belarusian region, to show the role of microfinance institutions in the economic life of the Belarusian society. Using concrete examples, the author shows that the activities of Polish interest-free cash registers were actually financed by the government of the country, and the activities of Jewish cash registers were financed by American non–governmental organizations. Static data on the number of Jewish and Polish cash registers of interest-free loans, their contribution to the development of production, trade, and social security of the population are analyzed. A certain success of this type of credit and banking institutions in the West Belarusian region is emphasized. The main provisions and conclusions are based on the analysis of normative legal acts, statistical data, periodical materials.
