Abstract

The article discusses the main directions for the synthesis of vector decorative images with symmetry properties that can be used to design printed products.

As parts of the universal approach to the synthesis of symmetrical objects as heterogeneous multilevel structures, three directions for the synthesis of decorative images have been identified: 1) synthesis of discretetype ornaments; 2) synthesis of abstract traceries from curvilinear figures; 3) synthesis of contour ornaments from plot motifs. Increasing the variety of abstract geometric traceries is possible by expanding the list of mathematical functions that describe the basic graphic element, as well as by controlling the parameters of these functions in the computer-aided design mode. For this purpose, a software editor of periodic functions related to the trigonometric Fourier series has been developed. The curvilinear object generated on their basis makes it possible to create traceries of a continuous nature without contour breaks. Also implemented is an automatic synthesis of ornaments based on symmetrical transformations of the generated object. The synthesis algorithm uses transformations of translational and mirror symmetry.

A higher degree of diversity of synthesized decorative images can be provided not only by expanding the list of typical basic elements, but also by developing a system of their parameterization.
