Abstract

On the example of the historical and documentary chronicle of the Stolin district of the Brest region, part of the popular scientific series Memory, dedicated to the historical, political and cultural development of the regions of Belarus, in order to generalize and promote the experience of publishing the books Memory, the features of the use of photographs, drawings and maps are the most common types of illustrations in the publication. Their thematic groups, functions, classification by color of pictorial elements are revealed. The specifics of the layout are considered, certain shortcomings of captions to illustrations are indicated. It was found that scientific and educational illustrations prevail in the publication, which not only expand the information, accompany the text, but can also be the subject of independent study.
