Abstract

The operational properties and durability of parts of movable conjunctions are largely determined by the condition of their working surfaces that are subject to contact loads. In addition, the main sources of stress concentration are occur on the surface. The stress depends on the shape of the part, roughness, the nature of the joints and friction forces in the mating parts.

In many cases, tensile stresses occurs in the surface layer when the parts are loaded. It leads to a leads to a decrease in the fatigue characteristics of materials. Therefore, to increase the resistance to fatigue failure of parts working under cyclic loading conditions it is promising to use surface hardening.

This article deals with the influence of complex borating on the fatigue characteristics of structural steel. The possibility of a significant increase in the endurance limits of samples made of 20KHN3A steel is shown, the rational composition of the saturating mixture, as well as the temperature and time parameters of the process are determined. The possibility of a significant increase in the fatigue characteristics of tool steel 5KH3VZMFS by cementation which is necessary for the manufacture of die steel is also specified.
