Abstract

The article describes the sources, diverse in content and nature, used to study the problem of the socio-political movement of teaching in Belarus in the second half of the XIX – early XX centuries. It is emphasized that the source base is not only an important means of historical knowledge of unknown facts and events, sometimes it is also used to rethink and clarify the conclusions that were made by previous researchers. The author analyzes published and unpublished documents and materials, which are conditionally divided into several groups: legislative acts of the Russian Empire, official records, statistical documents, sources of personal origin, periodicals. Attention is drawn to the fact that a comprehensive and complex study of a scientific problem requires the introduction into scientific circulation, first of all, of unpublished documents that are stored in the historical archives of Belarus, Lithuania and Russia. The informational possibilities and content richness of these materials are determined, which are mostly written from the standpoint of the official ideology and contain a kind of stamp of the era.
