Abstract

The article examines the specifics of modern morality and its socio-cultural nature. It has been shown that there is a tendency to develop public morality towards rationalization. The attitude of Orthodoxy to the problem of the spiritual crisis in society, as well as to the institution of family and marriage in the context of the socio-ethical teachings of the church, was systematically analyzed. It was revealed that Orthodoxy actualizes the thesis that only religious faith can be a criterion for morality. The church denies the identity of Christian ethics and universal human values, thereby emphasizing the idea of the uniqueness of Christian teachings and the patristic tradition. The view of modern Orthodoxy on issues of morality, family and marriage remains conservative; patriarchal values. The basis of marriage must be the community of faith. In essence, Orthodox ethics is authoritarian, based on religious dogmas. It has been shown that the Orthodox Church seeks to find and improve ways of influencing the spiritual and moral state of society.
