Abstract

The article is devoted to the examination of the role and status Ethical Committees (EC) in the theory and practice of modern medicine (biomedicine). The author analyzes EC as an institutional tool of biomedical ethics. The essence of the main types of EC, their general characteristics and specific features, status in modern society and prospects of activity are considered.

Real ways to improve and develop EC’s activities in our Republic involve the development of their transparency, the growth of the ethical and legal competencies of their representatives, the coordination of the activities, the formation of an appropriate policy not only in the health sector, but also in the field of scientific research and research in general. Improving the activities of ethics committees in the field of biomedical research should be accompanied by the formation of research ethics committees in those areas of scientific and practical activities where research of nature and society is carried out.
