Abstract

The present study examined how the psychological and sociocultural adaptation of the Belarusian students in Czechoslovakia varied over the political and economic factors. It analyzes such question as the process of adaptation to the conditions of the university environment and communicative skills of the students. This article reviews the development of the national identity among the Belarusians abroad after the organization of the literary performances in Prague by the Belarusian civil associations. The society «Independence» and the Belarusian cultural society named after F. Skaryna in Prague have become the most important for the sociocultural adaptation of the students. The visits of the Belarusian scientists, professors and writers contributed to the cultural and academic adaptation of the Belarusian students. The results of the study had shown that most of the Belarusian students in the interwar Czechoslovakia do not possess the common cultural identity, what indicates a problem of adaptation at the social and educational environment. The conflicts between different political groups in the diaspora and the world economic crisis have had a negative impact on the development of the Belarusian student organizations and their cultural activity.
