Abstract

The article is devoted to the problems of transforming the reading practices of children and youth, the formation of a special type of Internet-oriented audience. The information space makes us take a fresh look at the very definition of the meaning of the word “reading”. The transformation of the information field in which a person lives forces him to restructure his thinking and perception. Modern teenagers are active Internet readers. The global network for them is an integral part of life.

Digital reading is considered as a means of developing reading and reading strategies of schoolchildren. The main research questions of the article: the place of reading in the life of a modern teenager; what are the informational and reader preferences of schoolchildren on the Internet; Is there a connection between interest in reading and Internet activity. The problems of digital reading are considered: advantages and risks.

The article presents the results of a study of the reading interests of students in grades 5–8 of secondary schools in Minsk, media behavior of adolescents, their circle of reading, as well as the influence of the social environment on their reading choice. Based on the data obtained, the main factors of the reader's activity of a modern teenager on the Internet are determined. Solutions are proposed to stimulate the reading activity of schoolchildren, recommendations are given on using the capabilities of the global network to work with readers, introducing them to the culture of reading and teaching media literacy.
