Abstract

Currently, in hunting managements many countries of the world give preference to the breeding of phytophages (primarily ungulates), while strictly regulating the number of predatory animals. The Republic of Belarus is also implementing a red deer resettlement program. In the hunting managements of the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen, since 2014, work has been carried out to resettle these animals. Thanks to the implementation of this initiative, it was possible to significantly increase the number of the species, viable populations of red deer were formed in many farms. At the same time, some of the territories of hunting managements are not inhabited by animals of this species.

Elk and roe deer are permanent inhabitants of forest ecosystems. Thanks to the protection and the conduct of biotechnical measures, their number has been significantly increased in recent years. The high number of these animals makes it possible to successfully hunt them for Belarusian and foreign hunters. Fallow deer is a promising species for the introduction on the territory of hunting managements. Work on its resettlement in the hunting managements of the western regions is planned to be carried out in 2021–2025.
